HYDROSEEDING

LAWNS & TURF GRASS

Using the “Hydroseed” method,Quality Hydroseed will combine water, grass seed, paper or wood mulch, fertilizer, and tackifier. These materials are mixed into a thick green slurry and sprayed onto the area to be seeded. With adequate moisture and overnight temperatures above 50 degrees, grass will begin to appear within 10-20 days. With an automatic sprinkler system providing consistent water, the lawn will fill in, becoming thick and attractive in just 4-6 weeks.
The advantages to “Hydroseed” include:
- Seed, fertilizer and mulch is applied in one application
- Seed, fertilizer and mulch is applied uniformly.
- Time saving and cost effective. Of laying sod.
- Less weeds than methods that require straw or hay.
- No straw to remove
- Experience shows that grass grown using the hydroseed method is stronger
and more resilient that sod.
Soil Preparation
The general sequence of soil preparation is to apply three yards of composted manure per thousand square feet. This composted manure is then tilled and fine graded.
To maximize success, it is important that the soil be properly prepared and fine graded.
- Remove all rocks, sticks and similar debris
- Till to break up the soil and blend in the manure.
- Rake to a smooth appearance
On this properly prepared soil, the seed is then applied using the “Hydroseed” method.
Grass Seed
- For lawns and other turf applications, B&M Turf will use a seed blend that includes: Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, and Creeping Red Fescue.
o Kentucky Bluegrass - provides rich green color and fine texture.
o Perennial Ryegrass - is tolerant to high traffic and drought.
o Creeping Red Fescue - is tolerant to shade and low water.
Fertilizer (20-10-5)
- 20% Nitrogen Promotes Growth and Dark Green Color
- 10% Phosphorous Promotes Early Root Formation
- 5% Potassium Increases Vitality & Disease Resistance
Paper or Wood Mulch
- Protects against soil erosion due to rain or sprinklers.
- Helps retain moisture required for germination and growth.
- Holds the seed in place allowing it to root after germination.
Tackifier
- A tacky or sticky substance that holds the seed/mulch mix in place, protecting against heavy rains and high winds.
